Introducing Suncorp New Zealand’s new Community Partners
4 May 2018
Suncorp New Zealand has this week announced new partnership arrangements with two local charities, Shine and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.
The partnerships form part of Suncorp’s refreshed employee giving programme, which enables Suncorp employees to support causes they care about most.
Suncorp New Zealand CEO, Paul Smeaton, said Suncorp’s Brighter Future programme was designed to inspire and enable employees to make a difference in the communities in which they live and work.
“As part of the programme refresh, we surveyed our New Zealand employees to find out their biggest concerns, and which charities they wanted us to support,” said Paul. “The results revealed two of the social issues that matter most to our people in New Zealand were domestic violence and family welfare,” he said.
“Shine and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren undertake important work to address these issues in New Zealand, which is why we have selected them as our local community partners.”
Shine was established in 1990, and provides a range of services designed to prevent domestic abuse in New Zealand. Suncorp’s support will also enable Shine to promote their free helpline to more people at-risk of experiencing domestic violence and their Kidshine programme, an intervention service offered to families in their homes, for children who witness domestic abuse.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provide support services to around 6000 full time New Zealand grandparents who have become caregivers as a result of a traumatic event, family breakdown or serious parental issue. Funds raised by Suncorp will enable Grandparents Raising Grandchildren to host SALT workshops for grandparents to improve their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their grandchildren.
Smeaton said the community partnerships create another way for Suncorp employees to support their local communities.
“It is great to have such a flexible programme that allows our people to get behind these, and other causes, through matched giving and paid volunteer days.”
Suncorp selects charity partners based on employee research into the issues facing employees and their communities.
